Accessibility

Barrier-free entrance to Valve via the main doors on Hallituskatu. The entrance has two double doors, each with a 3 cm threshold. The doors open automatically with radar. There is no sound beacon at the entrance.

There is also an entrance on the Ojakatu side. The doors at the Ojakatu entrance do not open automatically, so the entrance is not barrier-free.

Parking: Due to ongoing construction work in the block around Valve, we are unable to offer customer parking. It is possible to stop on Hallituskatu in front of Valve for drop offs and pick ups.

Entrance: The Hallituskatu entrance is accessible due to having an automated door. The entrance does not have a sound beacon. There is another entrance on Ojakatu. The door on Ojakatu entrance is not automated and therefore not fully accessible.

The passages at Valve are primarily accessible. However, there are higher thresholds and narrow doors in the older parts of the building. A movable ramp is available for higher doorsteps if needed. You can find space-specific information on this page.

The info is located in the entry lobby. Counter’s height is 80 cm. No induction loop available.

The elevator’s size is 1440 mm x 1100 mm. No induction loop available. The accessible toilet is located in the basement floor.

1st floor: Valvesali Hall, café Paljetti and Kantti Crafts Workshop

The Valvesali, the café in the lobby, the first floor galleries and the Kantti Crafts Workshop are accessible.

Valvesali

The Valvesali hall has three wheelchair spaces in the first row. More accessible spaces can be arranged.

There are reserved seats at the edge of the Valvesali hall for people who may need to leave during the performance or who for other reasons prefer to sit at the edge. The seats are marked with a sign that says “ACCESS”.

The Valvesali hall has an induction loop.

The height of the outermost rows of coat racks in the lobby of the hall is 120 cm.

Café Valveen Paljetti

Part of the festival’s art exhibition is located at Café Valveen Paljetti. The door on the right side of Paljetti from the viewpoint of the main entrance leads up the stairs to the 2nd floor. The second part of the art exhibition is located in the pop-up gallery Kamari there.

Other parts of programme are also held at Cafe Valveen Paljetti.

Duo Kei-Ko will play music at Valve2026 Culture Fridays 24th of April from 17.00 to 18.00.

Comic artist Emmi Valve will be interviewed by Orjo Pättiniemi on Saturday 25th of April from 14.00 to 15.00 and she will be guiding a walk-in type of minizine-workshop after the interview from 15.00 to 16.00.

Kantti Crafts Workshop

The Kantti Cratfts Workshop can be accessed via the ramp in the picture, which is on the back wall of the café Paljetti when one arrives from the Hallituskatu entrance.

The threshold of the outer door of the Kantti at the top of the ramp is 2 cm. The width of the door is 78 cm. A ramp seen in the picture leads to the room.

The threshold of the inner door is 3 cm. The width of the double door is 54 cm when one door is open. Both doors fully open the width is 111 cm. The door pump is heavy.

The Our Future workshop will be held at the Kantti Cratfts Workshop on Saturday 25th of April at 12.00-14.00.

second floor: Pop-up gallery Kamari and studio cinema

The second floor of Valve, the Studio cinema and the pop-up gallery Kamari are accessible by elevator.

Elevator

The stairs next to the elevator provide access to the Studio Cinema and the pop-up gallery Kamari, which can be reached via a wheelchair ramp.

The elevator size is 1440 mm x 1100 mm, no induction loop.

The second floor houses the pop-up gallery Kamari and the Studio Cinema.

Pictured behind the ramp is the door to the Studio Cinema, where the festival’s film program will be shown on Sunday 26th of April 2026 at 11:00-17:45.

The door to the Studio Cinema has a threshold of 2 cm. The door width is 89 cm and when opened 108 cm.

The ramp allows wheelchair access to the pop-up gallery Kamari.

The cinema has a reserved wheelchair space in the front row.

The benches on the right side of the studio are reserved for people who may need to leave the studio during the screening, or for other reasons are better off sitting on the edge of the seating. The seats are marked with a sign that says “ACCESS”.

Pop-up gallery Kamari

Stairs in the picture lead to the pop-up gallery Kamari on the second floor.

The accessible route to the pop-up gallery Kamari is found by taking the elevator to the second floor and following the ramp to the door. The door leads to the corridor that leads to pop-up gallery Kamari.

The ramp is 92 cm wide and has handrails on both sides. The door is 77 cm wide.

There is a 6 cm threshold with a ramp to the pop-up gallery Kamari.

The picture shows view from the stairs that lead to the second floor. Pop-up gallery Kamari is at the end of the corridor, when turning left after the pillar.

This door leads to the pop-up gallery Kamari. There is a 6 cm threshold and a ramp over the threshold.

Toilets are located in the basement floor. It can be reached by elevator or by the stairs next to the elevator.

The accessible toilet will be open during the festival from 24th of April to 26th of April 2026. During other times it is locked, but will be opened by request. You may request the door opening from the in-house services at the info or by calling them: +358 44 703 7501.

All performances and screenings at the festival aim to take accessibility, including sensory accessibility, into account in the best possible way.

The sound levels of the films and the performing program will be checked and adjusted to be lower than normal.

In Studio Cinema and Valvesali some of the lighting will be left on during the performances.

In Valvesali and Studio Cinema there will be seats that are marked on the sides of the rows, for audience members who may find it difficult to sit in the middle, or who may wish to leave during the performance/screening.

The Neurodiversity Art Festival of Oulu does not tolerate any form of discriminatory behavior, such as homophobia or transphobia, racism, sexism, ableism, discrimination based on body or age, or discrimination based on location, language, nationality, or any other personal characteristic.

In a safer space, everyone has the right to be themselves without fear of discrimination, harassment, or physical or verbal abuse.

Respect everyone’s personal physical and psychological autonomy. Ask about others’ boundaries when necessary. Do not approach others physically if you are unsure whether it is mutually acceptable. Do not harass anyone verbally either.

Do not make assumptions based on appearance or behavior. Respect each person’s experiences and self-definition.

If you are told that your behavior or speech is not welcome, believe it immediately and do not take offense. Apologize also if you have caused harm unintentionally.

When taking photos or videos, make sure that it is acceptable to everyone appearing in them. Do not publish offensive images or videos.

Intervene in harassment if you witness it, and ask the person being harassed whether they want help or support.

We will intervene in harassment whenever possible. We will ask the harasser to stop and offer support to the person who has experienced harassment. The Neurodiversity Art Festival of Oulu has a designated harassment contact person, whom you can inform about incidents.
